CF Momma’s

Grabbed this from Phenny Man’s mom Angela

"To ALL you Cystic Fibrosis mommas"
found on breathe4tomorrow.org

I don’t know where to start this
So I guess I’ll use the start
The part where you had a sick baby
I know it broke your heart…

All the medications
You had to make me take
The clapping and the enzymes
The strength you sometimes faked…

Through my teenage years
I know I was a pain
Thank you for putting up with me
Though driving you insane…

Every time you’d hear me cough
I know it would stop your heart
When I’d get an infection
It must have torn you apart…

Now that I’m a mother too
I am always looking back
I can’t imagine what you’d go through
Listening to me hack…

Thank you for teaching me
That CF was not an excuse
And making me take my pills
When I tried to refuse…

You are my CF momma
No words can explain
The strength you possess inside
That gets you through the pain…

That strength you had to get up
In the middle of the night
To bring me a glass of water
And be there by my side…

To teach me to love others
As much as I love myself
And sometimes you taught me
To put my pride up on the shelf…

I know sometimes you blame yourself
For that gosh darned faulty gene
I want to know that I wouldn’t
Change it for anything…

That gene made me who I am who I am today
A strong amazing girl
I wouldn’t change one thing
About my CF world…

I have met terrific people
I help doing an amazing thing
All because of that one
Gosh darned faulty gene!!!

M-I-C…

K-E-Y

M-O-U-S-E!

Has become an obsession around here lately.

When Gavin wakes up in the morning, the first thing we hear lately is Meenee! (translation: Mickey) as he talks to his stuff animal he received on Easter.

So today, while it is raining cats and dogs outside, we’re inside relaxing and watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

You won’t hear me complaining about the lack of sunshine today…everything is starting to turn green!

Chipotle anyone?

We spent the holiday weekend with my mom in the Twin Cities. Since she lives just minutes from the Mall of America, we decided to head over to Underwater Adventures. The last time we brought Gavin, he was around six months old, so I was excited for him to enjoy it more this time around.

My brother just recently moved back to the Twin Cities, so he was able to join along. Gavin is really excited to get to know his Uncle better now that he is living closer!

There was a lot of oohing and ahhing in amazement and pointing to the big creatures as he watched the fish swim around him and above him.

Unfortunately, it was really crowded but thankfully Gavin didn’t seem to mind. He had a couple of opportunities to run around on his own and point at fish tanks, but he refuses to hold anyone’s hand and is extremely social so I’m always panicked that he’ll happily take off with a stranger.

Don’t be surprised if you see our wild child tethered to us the next time we’re out in public…

Once we got home we realized my mom did not forget to plug in the crock pot containing the roast for dinner (little Not Me Monday for ya!) so we hit up Chipotle for dinner.

Any guesses on who LOVES their black beans?

With so much going on, including playing with my mom’s new puppy, the little man refused to fall asleep until after 10 pm on Saturday night…way past his bedtime!

Then the next morning after opening his Easter basket (including several Mickey items, his new obsession)

…he refused his regular nap…

It caught up to him at lunchtime. Even with Casey, myself, my mom, brother, aunt, two cousins and grandma at the table (& we’re not exactly a quiet family)…he conked out!

Gavin was so excited to get home, he literally ran into the house and straight to his toys. As much fun as it is to get away, there is nothing like the comfort of home! Hopefully even more in about five weeks when we MOVE to our new home!

Hope everyone had a fantastic Easter holiday!

All Boy…

When you first bring a baby home, you obviously know that you have an infant boy or a girl.  But let’s be honest, you have a baby and the gender is really only noticeable by the decor and the clothing…and ok, ok the whole diaper situation is a lot different between the two. But either way, they sleep a lot, poop a lot, coo a lot and generally play with the same toys & “read” the same books.

And then they hit the toddler stage.

My son, is ALL boy. And I’ll admit, I goofed. I was buying so many gender neutral toys, forgetting that he’d soon be into trucks, tractors, grunting and all that other “guy stuff.”

On his birthday, he received several boy toys and it was like a light bulb went off. I had a BOY! A rough, tough, rowdy little boy! He was no longer just a cute little baby that played with anything you brought home…we needed loud, dirty, and manly toys.

So out came the planes, trains & automobiles.

So began the Thursday afternoons of sitting in the driveway watching the grumbling garbage truck go by.

So began the season of skinned knees & hot wheel cars.

And so begins the grunting, growling, hitting, pinching, digging, throwing, pulling, burping, farting…..

In other words…so begins the life with a little boy!

Heat Wave

It has been over 80 degrees here the last two days.

Yes, you heard me right. While the Northeast is getting hit with severe storms, and the south is getting snow…the frozen tundra is having a heat wave.

I even wore shorts.

I haven’t worn shorts (not including pjs) since before I was pregnant..so we’re going on two years. I would like to take this time to apologize to the city of Rochester for having to see my pasty white legs!

We hit up the dollar store this morning and scored some new shovels and a bucket. The local playground is all sand and yesterday Gavin kept stealing another little girl’s beach toys so I figured we should probably get a set of our own.

 park

Success. HUGE success. He cried when we left, he was having so much fun.

And wow. Does this kid love to run around…I would give anything to have just a quarter of his energy…

We built castles…

Climbed…

Went down the slide…
(over & over & over and over some more!)

Played on the bottom of the slide
(aka Mom taking a break while he hung out in one place for more than two seconds…)

Look mom! A stick!

And tried to smack the camera with his shovel…
I guess picture time is over!

Chillaxed and ready to head home!

Unfortunately, the temps are supposed to fall again for the holiday weekend and we’re expecting rain. But at least we know that summer really is just around the corner!

And those of you on facebook are aware, but we have big news in our family!

We’re moving! We’re outta this darn townhouse and back into a home of our own in the middle of May!

Can I get a…whoop whoop!
